Requirments for scholarship/essay; The TAM Scholarship was created after sponsor Carolyn Burton, an American Airlines Mechanic identified a need for providing tools to a female student starting out in Aircraft Maintenance. Carolyn will offer one TOOL Scholarship for $2500 worth of TOOLS of your choice plus round-trip airfare. In addition, Snap-On Industrial is generously contributing an aviation starter tool kit with a value of $2500. This scholarship is specifically for the purchase of tools for a currently enrolled full-time female sophomore or junior student in Maintenance Training for Airframe & Power Plant Certificates. This scholarship is not applied toward education costs. It is for TOOLS, ONLY. Applicants must be a US citizen or legal resident. Finalists will be interviewed and must attend the Women in Aviation International Conference in Reno, Nevada at the finalists’ own expense except for airfare. In your essay please share your goals, experience in aviation, and why you chose Aircraft Maintenance as your career. I am looking for those showing passion, teamwork, inspiration, challenges in life, and strong characteristics such as leadership qualities, community involvement and/or volunteer work, and academic standing. Include 2 (two) one-page recent recommendation letters. One letter should be from someone who has worked directly with you in the field, noting team work and aptitude and mentioning a specific task that impressed the reference. Additionally, proof of school attendance must be provided and grades to date. Also provide grades from former academic facilities attended prior to starting out in maintenance. The scholarship funds will be paid directly to Snap-On Industrial once your tools have been selected. The funds must be used by the end of 2021. My name is Ava Trate, I am a student in the Aviation Maintenance program at Delaware Technical Community College. I am currently going into my sophomore year and am expected to graduate in July of 2021 with my associate’s degree. My life in aviation all started out with my private pilot’s license that I received in July of 2020. I have always been the type of person to do better with hands-on work and being around planes all the time while getting my pilot’s license spiked interest in the way planes operated. That’s when I decided to change my degree plan from Nursing to Aviation Maintenance. I am a certified nursing assistant, private pilot, volunteer firefighter at roxana fire company and will soon be an A&P machanic when I graduate in July 2021. I love doing hands on work, I am a hard worker and well rounded person. I have accomplished an A&B average in school. I am 19. I would appreciate the scholarship because tools are very expensive and would help out tremendously being a full time student even though I work at Beebe Hospital currently along with an internship at Aloft Areoarchitecs shadowing the A&P mechanics and performing mechanical systems work, my hours are limited due to my school schedule.
