Multimedia Poetry Project

The selected song lyric comprise of Kelly Rowland’s “Lay It On Me” to illustrated the theme of sexuality views in the society regarding media contents. The song is designed to explicitly illustrate the feminist context in dressing, action, words, and the performance in reality. The song is a profound feature of literature that champions for women power in a male dominated or masculine mainstream. In a world rapid competitiveness and continuous growth, the lyrics shows the feminist’s approach to taking control and power in what women do, pursue their dreams, and live a free life. The context is fundamental towards exercising free sexual orientation which is assertive on the subjects involved in the song.

The lyrics shows the power of appreciating oneself, beauty, and their skin. “Everything starts at your skin…” shows the value of self-appreciation, believing in oneself and taking control of one’s life. This is fundamental to taking charge and pursuing one’s dreams and taking the initiative for free thinking. The lyrics illustrate a journey towards self-actualization in a world that is full of challenges. Figures 1, 2, and 3 are a sample content of living true to the lyrics in the song. The society’s perception and views on sexuality should be boundaries that hold people bondage to living their lives fully. Instead, every individual should have their freedom and power to pursue all they desire in life. Rowland’s lyrics are a depiction of the feminist power and transformation in the society. That is, amidst all odds, feminist goal is to become the best version of themselves.
