Extremism as an Aspect of Domestic Terrorism in America

For this project, you will complete a 6 page research paper, excluding the title and reference pages. You can choose any aspect of domestic terrorism in America covered to date in the readings and Discussion Boards that you find most interesting. However, you must choose a very specific issue that you will argue for or against (i.e. your thesis) as you comprehensively argue the key issues and their impact on American society (citizens, law enforcement, government officials, policies, etc.) Use examples to support your choice and position on the subject. You must cite and reference at least seven (7) scholarly sources within your paper. Before beginning this assignment, your project choice must have the approval of the instructor.

Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to address at least one of the following module outcomes:

• Explain the issue of balancing national security and American civil liberties
• Discuss how the USA PATRIOT Act has broadened the government’s intelligence-gathering powers
• Discuss the impact new technology has had on the government’s ability to obtain electronic information and evidence.
• Examine the issues regarding the use of The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (FISA) by government agents.

This paper must be written in the APA writing style (6th edition) format. Submit the paper as a MS Word document in the appropriate drop-box. The paper (not including the title and reference pages) should be approximately 6 pages in length, double spaced in 12-point Times New Roman font.
