The Article I am choosing is “The Ugly Tourist” by Jamaica kinkaid We have our likes and dislikes, and sometimes we need to explore those connections as we read, and reaffirm them by writing about them. This is what makes writing so durable, and helps to connect us with ideas written a long time ago, but which still resonate with us today. Step one: Review the list of authors and their writings. You can skim from the textbook, or find those pieces online, easily available through a Google search. Step two: You should go through all of them Reading first the opening preface to the work (in italics), noting the time period, and the focus of the title, then skim for topicality and interest. Note: Explain your reasoning for selecting these to your list. Step three: Now narrow your list down to, then, a grouping of no more than three (theme, time period, or cultural-ethnicity). Step four: We can begin writing from this point on your grouping, but then narrow the range further to only two, and then one – which will be your main reading – and a close one, where you’ll find connections to you and our contemporary world. (You’ll need to look hard, in some places, beyond the events and situations, for meaning that transcends the era and moves directly to your concerns.)
